My Students
I have a library that serves 600 students. Our library is small for our student population and so is our collection. I am working to add more books to our library for students to check-out and give them more options of different materials to choose from.
Our school serves a broad population of students. We have students with both parents at home, only one parent, some that are homeless. We also have a high visually and auditory impaired population. Our student body is pretty evenly mixed between Caucasian, African American, and ELL students.
My Project
I am requesting a mixture of popular graphic novels available right now. My students need books that are popular right now such as Marvel Zombies, Big Nate, and Marvel Avengers to get them to pick up books and develop a love of reading! My students in the upper elementary grades are really interested in them, so much so, I can't keep them on the shelf. I often find they don't want to check anything else out if these kinds of books are not available.
It is important to have books that students are interested in to spark a love for reading, a passion for knowledge, and a yearning to be a lifelong learner. I want to be able to offer them up-to-date literature that gets them engaged.
