My students need these sight word games to get them excited about reading. It opens the door to helping them become more proficient readers. The ease with sight words helps them build strong fluency!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Twelve out of the eighteen students in my room are speakers of another language. The students struggle with learning to read and understanding math but they are eager and excited to learn. Many come from homes where very little English is spoken so parents are not able to help them. Many do not have books in their homes. My students are all on free lunches. My students love reading but struggle to learn the letters, sounds, sight words, and word families. Getting the sight word centers in a variety of different learning styles in reading will increase students’ understanding and make learning complicated reading skills fun and engaging!
My Project
My students need these sight word centers to help them build their sight vocabulary. The excitement will be contagious as students get the opportunities to learn and play in these engaging centers. The centers are hands on children can find, build, match, and write sight words to help them learn. Students are also learning their sight words in context by reading and writing longer more complex sentences. Students will master their sight words while being challenged and engaged in fishing for sight words! Students who learn their sight words within thirteen second or less become more fluent in reading and self confident!
