My students attend a public school in Florida. My students are in first grade. They live in a very economic depressed area. Over 83% of our school is on free and reduced lunch. Many of our families have been hit very hard by the downturn in the construction business. No matter their economic struggle they come to school with a great enthusiasm to learn. They get so excited when they see me setting up the CD player for them and the computers. They are saddened when I tell them here is the website try this at home. Many little heads are hung down as they simply say, "we can't afford the Internet at home." So I created Power-points which I loaded onto some donated flash drives. I told them they could use their computers no internet! They were so happy to take it home. It was like gold in their little hands. Adding more Leapsters to my classroom will put more technology in the hands of my kids. The extra cartridges will help them by presenting the math skills in many different formats.
