This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are amazing, marvelous and challenging on many levels. They come to school excited, eager to experience an exciting lesson. I often refer to them jokingly as “challenging customers” that refuse to accept second best. As I try my best to provide an excellent customer service to my clientele, I find that it is never enough to just teach.
It is a journey to discover how best to serve every single one of my students and get them ready for college and for life and I am enjoying the ride.
Our school is a Title I school in Atlanta where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are facing many socioeconomic challenges that hinder their academic success. As I observe them interact with one another, enthused in a lesson, I regain my conviction that a future is possible and achievable for all my students.
My Project
Having a popcorn machine ready to be used for my students is going to make it easier to provide a ready snack when needed. For many reasons, most out of their control, my students come to class hungry. I am not yet ready to offer a full meal but can offer a little snack that will give them a little boost that will help them finish the course.
An empty stomach is unable to operate at a 100%.
I want my children powered up and ready to tackle the world one activity at a time. The impossible will happen. The level of excitement will rise. Hands will go up. Smiles will make their appearances and learning will take place every day.
