This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Math Wizards unite! My students need manipulatives and materials to practice their math skills and at the same time use their literacy skills.
My kids are from low income neighborhoods with few opportunities to really practice the skills they learn in class.
They need ample opportunities to show that they are learning in a variety of ways. I want them to love everything about math, so when it gets challenging, they're not afraid to try.
My Project
With these games and manipulatives, they get to be creative and think outside of the box. Students who can think logically about lots of different things are much better in all their academic areas. They get to be their own teachers and help each other accomplish their goals! Our first unit will deal with counting and beginning addition and subtraction. Students need great visuals to build their number sense and learn their basic facts, do these "games in a flash" will allow the class practice time during centers, for fun, or when I need to pull low students for one-on-one guidance. The high students can read the directions on their own and model for the other students.
My project will give kids the chance to link fun and learning together.
These items will teach kids to think for themselves and put what I've taught them to practice without being tested all the time.
