Pollinator Pathway Community Garden

Help me give my students the tools to create a native planting community garden as part of the pollinator pathway!

My Project

Our school is an alternative high school where students engage in project based learning. After successfully purchasing and setting up a beehive last year, students are now interested in creating a pollinator garden so that the bees, birds, and other insects have a supply of pollen. Students at WFC enjoy an expansive property complete with nature trails. Students aspire to make this space more inviting for the surrounding community by creating an informative native pollinator garden.

While students have already done some preliminary work on the garden, additional materials such as shovels, gloves, raised beds, and fence repairs will help students to create an interactive community learning garden.

So far, students have participated in and enjoyed weeding an existing dilapidated garden. We still need shovels and gloves so that students can begin the actual planting in the spring. A prefabricated raised garden bed and replacement part for the fencing will complete our garden repairs.

This project is a collaboration between Civics and Science classes. Students will not only learn about the biology of native plants and pollinators, but will also bring this garden to the larger community of the school and surrounding residential area. Once completed, our garden's goal will be to educate about the importance of native plants and pollinator pathways. Students also hope to make and sell products from the beehive. This garden will help bring learning outside the classroom so that students can participate in a hands on learning experience. Please help my students get their garden started!
