My Students

Students at GJH represent diversity in several ways. Students come from different cultures, family dynamics, and social-economic status. In any given class there can be students that have traveled to GJH from the other side of the planet and other students that may not travel much farther than our county. Not every student has the same experiences and opportunities in life.

Facing diversity in the classroom can be a challenge, but it can also open the way for differentiation.

I value the importance of visual learning and often reference maps and past traveling experiences to students so they can make connections in the learning when we discuss runoff in our town, rubber ducks circulating in ocean currents, or countries around the world representing different biomes. These connections can strengthen their learning if they have visited some of these places on their own.

My Project

The students have really taken to the pollinator PBL project I started last year. Each grading period I spend a few weeks in the tech lab with my Instructional Lab class to address the declining population in pollinators.

The student interest in this pollinator project has blossomed into an amazing hands-on learning lesson in so many ways for my students.

Students are working very hard at creating something that not only will make a difference for pollinators but is also something that are taking pride in building. The increased interest calls for finding ways to purchase more supplies to continue this project for all of my students.
