My Project

April is Poetry Month, and what not better time to expand our school's library collection by providing new, culturally diverse, engaging poetry books, books in verse, and biographies on Poets?

Poetry can help students develop social and cultural awareness by exposing them to different cultures, experiences, and perspectives.

When students engage with poetry they must contemplate the perspective of the poet in order to understand the poem's meaning. That's why it is fundamental to use Poetry in Social Studies Classes. Also, poetry activities based on social studies primary sources allow students to practice literacy skills, and engage more deeply with social studies.
