Poe Graphic Novel for Struggling Readers

Help me give my students the ability to see Edgar Allen Poe's famous short stories through a graphic novel that author Gareth Hines specifically has geared towards struggling readers.

My Students

Our students range in academics from co-taught, resource and general education students grades 9-12. They are not always great readers, but are engaged in the learning process. These students see life in a different light, and are very in tune with the world around them. Over half of these students are in a low income area and do not always have access to reading materials. They want to learn, and have an interest in the content we have taught this year.

My Project

These materials will make a difference for students in collaborative, resource and general education classes. This graphic novel of Edgar Allen Poe's short stories are specifically geared towards struggling readers. This graphic novel set would allow them to grow in their knowledge of American Literature, and also strengthen their reading and comprehension skills. These novels will be used for grades 9-12. Most of the students using these materials would be in a special education resource classroom, or a co-taught classroom with struggling readers. This novel set would allow many students an insight into literature using graphics and visual arts. This is a tool that could benefit many students for years to come.
