Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a Title I-funded school where about 80% of our school's population is ESL. These friends come to school and are thrown into a completely different world. Not only are they expected to learn our core standards, but they also are learning an entirely new language at the same time. I look forward to helping my kinders receive an equitable education.

My Project

I have a large ESL population in my classroom and school, and it continues to grow. They are thrown into a completely different country, culture, and environment - and at such a young age! As I have been doing my ESL endorsement this year, I have realized that I need something to help make this initial transition easier.

Imagine being thrown into an English speaking classroom all by yourself at the young age of five.

I am hoping to use this Pocketalk translator device to communicate with my new students that have moved here and help them feel more comfortable, safe, and secure in this new environment.
