Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hands-on, visual learners who come to school ready to learn! After spending a day in our library, you would never guess that roughly 60% of the students are labeled “at-risk” and more than 85% are considered “low socioeconomic status”. We are creating an environment that is inclusive and equitable for all students, and the library is an important place for children to find their voice and build community.
Our students deserve the best, and making learning fun is the best way to ensure they are getting the education they deserve.
These book character plushes will be incorporated into the library to give it a sense of home and familiarity. Seeing their favorite book characters will also build engagement and hopefully foster the love of reading they need to be successful learners. In addition, they will be used for a variety of activities like character interviews and book re-writes to build their critical and creative thinking skills.
