They are using it to create stop-motion videos, which teaches them about narrative structure, persistence (it takes hundreds of photos), sequencing, and physics as they move their objects. It shifts them from being passive consumers of technology to active creators.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for the students is seeing their toys, clay figures, and drawings magically move on the screen. It validates their imagination and makes learning hands-on.\r\n\r\nWe've seen incredible enthusiasm from students who were initially shy about reading aloud but have completely blossomed when directing their stories. They meticulously sets up scenes and narrate the action, demonstrating a strong grasp of plot and character development all thanks to the creative outlet the iPad provides.\r\n\r\nYour gift truly empowers the next generation of digital storytellers! When my students first saw the new materials, they were filled with excitement. The whiteboards and laminated activities have become essential tools in our reading centers, helping students practice sight words, retell stories, and build confidence through hands-on learning.\r\n\r\nOne of their favorite activities is our new story retelling station. Using laminated cards and organized book bins, students work in small groups to bring stories to life — identifying characters, sequencing events, and even acting them out. It's amazing to see their comprehension skills growing every day.\r\n\r\nThanks to your kindness, our classroom is more organized, interactive, and full of joy. Your contributions have already begun to transform our library and the way my students engage with reading.\r\n\r\nMany of you, like me, are passionate about books, but might not always see how we use them in the classroom. The new texts have allowed us to introduce key skills in a much more engaging way. For instance, we've used several new picture books to teach about identifying the main idea and supporting details, and some of the biographies have sparked great discussions about cause and effect in history. We're also using the diverse characters in the books to explore empathy and different perspectives.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is a dynamic experience. We have dedicated independent reading time where students choose books that interest them, and I love seeing them get lost in a story. We also do read-alouds, partner reading, and small group instruction where we focus on specific skills. The new books have made all of these activities more exciting and effective.\r\n\r\nI have several students who are particularly enjoying the new additions. One student, who previously preferred non-fiction, has discovered a love for fantasy novels thanks to a new series we received. Another has been devouring all of the graphic novels and has even started creating their own comics! It's truly heartwarming to see these transformations.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity. You've not only provided books; you've opened up new worlds and possibilities for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1735166016239,"projectUrl":"project/graphic-novels-needed/9008654/","projectTitle":"Graphic Novels Needed","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dewar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5655853_orig.png?crop=520,520,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1611988117568","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/prekprojects"},{"teacherId":5655853,"projectId":8841468,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredibly generous support of my Donors Choose project! They are absolutely loving the new additions to our classroom library, and I'm already seeing a positive impact!\r\n\r\nMany of the books have introduced us to new vocabulary and sparked some wonderful class discussions. For example, The Gruffalo, helped us explore the concept of sequencing and encouraged the students to think critically about perspective. Reading time in our classroom is now even more engaging! We also have book clubs where students can discuss and share their thoughts on the stories.","fullyFundedDate":1734099468876,"projectUrl":"project/picture-book-perfection/8841468/","projectTitle":"Picture Book Perfection","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dewar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5655853_orig.png?crop=520,520,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1611988117568","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/prekprojects"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_101866","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":688,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":25,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":62,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":54.9,"schoolId":101866,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about George H W Bush Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"George H W Bush Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/dallas-independent-school-district/george-h-w-bush-elementary-school/101866"}
