My students need books at their reading level to research penguins.
The Frog-tastic Firsties are thirsty for knowledge. They love reading non-fiction books, especially about animals and sea creatures. One struggle is finding non-fiction books at the appropriate reading level.
The Frog-tastic Firsties love to read.
They have been working hard learning and practicing comprehension and decoding strategies.
The Frog-tastic Firsties live in a large urban area. We live in a very diverse neighborhood. There are over 20 languages spoken at our school. There are over 1,000 students. We love coming to school. We have awesome attendance. We also get along very well in our class. We are all friends and work hard together.
These books will allow the students to read about and research penguins. These books have specifically been chosen because they are at a first/second grade reading level. This is so important because it gives the students a sense of independence and responsibility as they complete their first research project.
This donation will allow the Frog-tastic Firsties to learn about penguins as they read about and research them.
They will work in small heterogeneous groups, reading and writing about penguins. I will also be able to use these books for guided reading, so that I can monitor their reading and comprehension skills.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
