The students at my school are a very eclectic mix of individuals. I've been at this school for a little over a year now, and I've enjoyed getting to know these young people. We are a tiny, close-knit community nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, and our students come from all walks of life.
Our school is a high-poverty school, and our music department was lacking much of the basic equipment needed to run a quality department.
We have some support from our PTO, parents, and community, but sometimes we just need a little bit of outside financial help to provide the supplies and materials our students need. You could be that "little bit" of help.
My Project
These are items that my kids use every day in music class, and they either get worn out, broken, or lost by the end of the year. I typically buy items throughout the summer when they go on sale out of my own pocket, but with COVID and being stuck at home, I was unable to go out and scout the sales.
Every year in August I have to replenish our supply of choir folders, guitar/ukulele/dulcimer picks, and pencil cap erasers in addition to many other supplies.
The folders are used for choir; they, along with each piece of music, are numbered to keep each student's materials separate from everyone else's. The picks will be used for my guitar classes every 9 weeks. Each student will be assigned a small container of picks so they are not sharing or digging through one large container for a pick. While we are unsure of what this school year will look like in the coming weeks, I need to be prepared for when my kids get to come back in my classroom, whether that be September 8th or later in the fall.
