My students need videos to supplement teacher lessons. The only videos we have are VHS tapes from the mid 1970's. Our School Board gives -0- dollars each year to every school Library.
We have a wonderful group of students who have come to Manchester from all over the world. We are an inner city school with a diverse group of students speaking 60 different languages.
We have students who are polite, respectful, talented, and eager to learn.
They are creative, friendly and helpful. First period, each weekday morning, we teach them things like values, kindness, and compassion. They create Veteran's cards, Smiles for a Children's Hospital, and bring in food to make 70+ Thanksgiving baskets.
We have great diversity of cultures here at our school. Everyone works together, helps each other, and fosters an attitude of caring and sharing, and learning.
My Project
Our school's 1970's VHS tapes were created long before students had phones, long before sexting was an issue, long before we knew our food is genetically modified, our planet is fragile and long before we cared about student self-esteem.
Our school has no DVDs, only VHS tapes to use.
Many of the VHS tapes teachers had for the curriculum were eaten by VCR machines decades ago. We need DVDs to supplement our Language Arts curriculum and our Science curriculum, to support our guidance counselors, and to provide guidance for our daily Advisory class for all 850 students. Schools now teach so many life lessons that we need material to show students, to show them how to act and react in situations as they grow older.
Many of these videos will help our students live healthy lives. Students can come into the Library to watch these videos or watch them also in classrooms. I will store the DVDs in the Library, so the entire school has access to use them, and every student can benefit.
