Please Help Supply Our Classroom With Graphic Novel Book Sets!
Help me give my students the new Wimpy Kid graphic novels that they love. They are high-interest books that are read every class period every day for choice reading time and I need to update my collection.
Students in these reading intervention classes are struggling readers who need support and encouragement in our classroom. Some of these students have learning disabilities, some of them have been through significant emotional trauma, and some just really don't feel confident at school because in the past, it wasn't a positive experience. These are students who need extra help in reading to build their confidence as learners and break through our state's significant achievement gap. Many students come to class feeling discouraged and embarrassed about being in a reading class, but it is important for us to build a community in which all cultures and identities are welcome. Students in my classes are some of the smartest kids I've known, they just need help building their academic skills in order to be successful and happy in their lives. These kids are bright, capable, and will be held to high standards to work hard throughout the year.
My Project
This is my fifth year as a reading teacher at my school and some of our favorite books have been loved to pieces after getting chosen for choice reading six times a day, 180 days per year. Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are a big deal because they make reading cool, especially for the scholars who may be more reluctant readers.
My kids love these Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and will fight over who gets to read them if there are not enough--this is a good problem to have!
I want all of my students to learn to love reading. The great part is that I have the ability to request more of these high-interest books through DonorsChoose. Please help me supply my students with the books they want to read.
