Please Help My English Language Learners Get Computers!
My students need two laptops, two cases, and a laptop keyboard protector in order to be successful in my classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My English Language Learners are comprised of a variety of backgrounds and cultures and aim to learn and understand English in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. We are in a high poverty, low income school with Title I status in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As seen in the latest news, our state compared to the rest of the nation has the worst discrepancy of funding between the rich and poor. It is truly an injustice. Despite such hardship, my students deserve learning opportunities where they can grow and support each other as contributive citizens of this global society. Currently we have an influx of new students from Puerto Rico post hurricane Maria. Our students are attempting to assimilate into the social culture of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and learn English language so they can function in this society.
My Project
I teach 50 non-native English speaking 5th and 6th grade English Language Learners in the city of Philadelphia. My ELLs seek to learn English so they can succeed in society. This year we have had an influx of new students from Puerto Rico join our 5th and 6th grade classrooms. Our students desire to comprehend all various subject based content in an English language dominant curriculum. Unfortunately, my classroom only has one laptop computer! We would need more computers so that more students will get the chance to research topics and learn using technology. Our students love using the computer so obtaining a Chromebook and a MacBook will expose them to the various types of computer technology to assist in their learning. Please help us bring more technology into our classroom! Our students would be absolutely thrilled in getting both a Chromebook and a MacBook! The cases will help protect their computers for long term usage.
My teacher colleagues agree that Hurricane Maria has been a source of stress for my students.
Many of their relatives are still over in Puerto Rico and they tell me about their trials and tribulations! Having two additional laptops in my classroom will provide my students another tool that will help them learn all the subject contents in English. Learning English with technology is both calming and exciting! My students can even research Puerto Rico and share facts with their classmates! My students love learning about their culture and about others as well! Please help my students adjust to life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by allowing for them to improve their English skills through obtaining these new computers!
