Please help my culinary arts students replace a broken stove!
Help me give my students the chance to continue with their culinary arts education. One of our classroom stoves has broken and my large culinary classes have to share the remaining stoves to experience the food they created.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My culinary arts students are the best! They're flexible and brave and are willing to try new things. Some of them have never touched a knife or read a recipe and most certainly have never made food for themselves from scratch. They impress me every day with their hard work and dedication.
When they first entered my class, using a stove, a knife, or a recipe was a completely foreign concept.
As the year went on, they began to see how wonderful food could be, how much better it tasted if they made it themselves, and how they can affect the choices they make about their health. It is exciting and inspiring to watch them, and I can't wait to expand their food knowledge in the years to come.
My Project
A stove is an essential tool in any culinary arts classroom. For my students, having a functional stove not only helps them complete their assignments, but also allows them to explore and create and be proud of their own dishes.
One of my classroom stoves broke before the holiday break and my students have had to share the remaining stoves ever since.
That means about 30 of my students have to wait for the other students to finish before they get a chance to work on their dishes. I want to replace that stove so all of my 120 students can have a chance at exploring their knowledge of food, flavor, and success.
I feel it’s important that students have these skills to become self-sufficient adults who have basic life skills. Not only are these jobs skills that they can take with them into a future career in the culinary arts, but they are also skills that these students can use for the rest of their lives no matter what career they may choose. They will always know how to hold a knife properly, how to cut and prepare food for cooking, and how to make food choices that will benefit their health. Throughout the year, I kept thinking about my grandmother who learned a recipe when she was in the 6th grade and made that recipe every holiday for the entirety of her life. I wanted the same for my students. When they look back on their time in my class, they can say, “Remember when we made...”, or “I know how to make....” for the rest of their lives. This culinary arts class is not a temporary moment for them, but will stay with them forever. And a new stove will help them achieve this goal.
