Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hello, I would like to talk to you about my Superstars. In our world today we are asking more than ever before of our children in the classroom that materials and resources come mostly from the teachers and the families. In the past, I would supply about 90% to the classroom materials and environment.

The problem is that the schools have less money than ever to provide what they need, and my families do the best they can, but for many of my students, it can be a burden.

We are a Title I school and many of our families are working multiple jobs to take care of their family.

We provide many resources as well as programs and activities to connect our students, their families, and the community. A large majority partake in at least one of these programs. At this time it is unsafe to be in the classroom, so they do not have reliable access to the materials they desperately need to be successful during distance learning.

My Project

These are extraordinary times, and teaching our precious students safely requires extraordinary measures. We are beginning the year with distance learning and with so many unknown factors, we do not know when it will be safe to return to our classrooms. Even then, the model of sharing and collaborating among students is not a safe option and will not be for a very long time.

Many families will find it difficult if not impossible to provide their children with the basic classroom materials they will need to learn.

I would like to provide each of my Superstars with their own set of tools providing equity by having essential items for each student, and multi-cultural sensitivity with the crayons, markers, and paper they will have access to. In doing so they will have them available while we teach with distance learning and then when we do return to the classroom they will still have them at home to support learning as needed.
