This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello, I am a junior high school Social Studies teacher. Due to our financial crisis, not only am I teaching 7th and 8th grade Social Studies, I am also teaching 8th grade English Language Arts and technology. Most of our schools are from high-poverty families and we have a large number of shelter, foster and ELL students.

My school is a Kindergarten through 8th grade facility, but this is only the 5th year we have had a middle school. This is my second year teaching in this school and it is a wonderful place but we cannot afford to have the resources I had in my other school. The money we are allocated to spend has been cut and I used most of my money to buy my students supplies such as notebooks, paper, hand sanitizer, etc. I gave my students a reading interest survey and every single child told me that they do not like to read because they think it is boring. I do not have any books at all available to me and with the little money I can afford to spend, I bought a few books from eBay. My students do not know how to choose a book, let alone read and analyze a novel. The only way they will be able to do this is if we can do it together.

These books will afford me the opportunity to get my students excited about reading. They will also give them the chance to read, comprehend and learn how to analyze a book. They will help the students improve upon their reading skills; most are low-level readers and many do not read at all.

We all know these children are the future of our country and it would be so awesome if you could make it possible for them to love to read; get their interests peaked and get them thinking. You will be doing such an awesome service for some children who do not even own books or have ever gone to the library. We would greatly appreciate it and I know it would be something they would be forever grateful for. Thank you for taking the time to read this!
