Help me give my students snacks. They don't eat until after 1 p.m. Most have been up since 7 or 8 a.m. They need crackers, cookies, and chips just to make it until lunch.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from the most diverse school in the city. They have a variety of ethnic groups, classes, educational backgrounds, and learning styles. We are also honored to have a variety of abilities. We serve students with multiple physical, mental, and emotional impairments. So, our students have a chance to learn with a true snapshot of humanity.
My students have the joy to learn.
In the midst of water issues, budget cuts, and buildings closing, my students are determined to learn. There is now low morale among students and staff. The impact of these conditions is deeply impacting learning. Yet, they are working to overcome these odds and become successful.
My Project
My students are part of the working poor families of their communities. Most jump from home to home because their parents work several homes. So, they are lucky if they get a good dinner. Many eat both breakfast and lunch at school. We are requesting crackers, cookies, and chips just to make it until lunch.
Still my students are hungry and growing adolescence.
Many are nearly as tall as grown ups and hungry anyway. But, our lunch isn't until 1 p.m. Many wake at 8 a.m. So, to have a snack part way into the morning of crackers, cookies, or chips; would really help them. Then, instead of concentrating on hunger, they can focus on learning.
