Many of my students are lacking food at home, especially during the government shut down and lack of resources. So, it is exciting to be able to provide regular snacks for them. Now, they can focus on teaching and learning, rather than their hunger. I have four classes and have enough snacks that any of them can eat before lunch. Our lunch isn't until 12:55. The books show them examples of leadership in Science, politics, dance, and activism. So, they are reading about important figures in history and learning they can reach these heights too. In all my years teaching, I've never had students share they were reading during their visits with friends for the weekend.
