Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Today a reader, Tomorrow a leader!" is a quote that I teach my students to live by. Books open countless opportunities and experiences to everyone. My students are in need of new books for our classroom library!!
My students are a wonderful group of 6th graders who have a wide variety of reading levels.
They attend a school in an urban area that has a high poverty level. We do not have a library in our school, so the only books my students have are the ones in our classroom library. Every year we have to replace some of the books because they are lost or in bad shape due to repeated reading. The school is able to provide some books for us, but due to extreme budget cuts we will not receiving any new books this year. I buy many books for the library, but can't afford to replace all of the ones we need.
My Project
The books we are asking for have been requested by the students. They are replacing ones from our library or they are ones that my students really want to read! When they are really interested in the books, they will read them. My students can be hard to motivate when it comes to reading, but I think getting these books will inspire them to pick up a book and read!
Getting these books for our classroom will be a wonderful addition to our library.
My students are looking forward to reading them. Hopefully they will inspire them to pick up other books and maybe turn a reluctant reader into a future leader!
