My Students

I am thrilled to join the staff of an "A" rated school where 37% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Students love coming to their school and enjoy many enriching activities throughout the year. We all work together to create a supportive and enriched environment for learning. The school guidelines are to be kind, be responsible, and be safe. The school is very successful in challenging students to be actively involved in making their world a better place.

I am grateful to be a part of a dedicated, hardworking school that supports one another with a kindness pledge everyone models.

Our students are kind, helpful, and are wonderful reflections of being nice to others. The students are a joy to work with and are very creative, which adds many dimensions to classroom learning. We are a large school with low student turnover and an excellent student attendance record, which is so important to student success. I am so thankful to be a part of a school that has such a great impact on its students academically, socially, and emotionally. Staff and students are working on solving problems and making contributions to build a better future for all.

My Project

My students love playing Orff instruments to the songs they sing! The xylophones with their short, wooden sounds provide the rhythmic foundation to the music pieces we perform in class and in our music programs. Modeling the xylophones after the Balafons from Africa, Carl Orff had these barred instruments made for children to play on and sing with in other countries.

I currently have up to thirty-one students in a music class.

I do not have enough instruments for everyone to play on and access the curriculum as we cover pentatonic tones, C Major scales as well as practicing different mallet skills. I am borrowing bell kits from other schools, but I would like to have a fuller Orff ensemble for my students to experience. Some of our instruments are over forty years old and are missing bars. We also am in need of mallets.
