Help me give my students a foundation of purposeful play items and informational texts. In anticipation of returning to school, someday, we will need extra materials for safety and sanitation reasons.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 21 resilient 4 and 5 year old children in a virtual setting. While this format is new for all of us, our community is thriving. We have built relationships and become a classroom family even in these unprecedented times.
My Project
In anticipation of a safe return to school, someday, we are going to need additional supplies to create safety and sanitation practices while still doing two things we really love, playing and reading. Our little fingers are excited to gently read books, play in the kitchen, and maneuver puzzle pieces to build fine motor skills.
"Play is really the work of childhood." Fred Rogers
With this sentiment in mind, the project is heavily set on materials we need for our dramatic play area in order to safely rotate toys in and out of play for sanitization. We will also need multiple sets of the same book for children to carefully handle and love well. In this ever grown age of informational texts, children need to explore their world through real-life pictures to enhance their learning. Finally, no pre-school room is complete without a set of wooden puzzle pieces to manipulate while building fine motor skills.
