Playful Pets

My students need a variety of materials such as a scale, pet counters, and storage bins for our classroom Pet Study.

My Students

We are a Pre-Kindergarten Classroom at a Title I Magnet School.

My 20 4 year-old students are curious, eager and energetic young learners.

The students bring to the classroom many varied life experiences from their homes and the surrounding community. We embrace both our regular, ESOL and ex-ed children in the classroom and we are located within an economically and culturally diverse neighborhood.

My students love learning and with a variety of resources, I can help them find success, instill confidence, and guide them farther than even they ever thought possible.

My Project

In our Head Start/VPK program we center our learning around several different "Studies". These classroom materials are needed for our Pet Study.

Research shows that prek students learn best through constructive, purposeful play.

For this reason, the majority of these materials will be incorporated into our Dramatic Play Area Vet Clinic. Through Dramatic Play, students gain skills such as: compassion, cooperation, self-regulation, language and vocabulary.

The pet counters and scale will be utilized in our Math Area to learn sorting, counting and measurement skills. For example: Students can sort the animals by color/type and then count to see how many are in each group. Using the scale, students can see how many dog counters are equal to the weight of a dog bone.

The plastic bins will be used to store the materials when not in use.
