This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Thank for considering to donate to my classroom! I teach awesome preschool students with autism, at a Title I School. Some characteristics of autism is the inability to display "functional Play", social skills, communication and/or to imitate.

These toys, games, pretend food, sensory bins and furniture will help foster both "pretend play" and imitation skills.

The comfy couch will be great for my students to sit comfortably and look at books, or play games with their peers. The table and chairs, pizza Kit, and birthday Cake, will be added to my "kitchen" corner to help create a play environment that allows for imitation, social skills, facilitated play and encourages communication. With the colored printer and laminating pouches, I can help my students create beautiful artwork and print colored curriculum.

I have been a Special Education teacher for almost 25 years and I love to see the progress my students make everyday. Whether it's learning to match colors or even throw away their food, I love seeing my students make progress. No accomplishment is too small! One of my favorite quotes is, “Autism is not a disability, it's a different ability.” – Stuart Duncan.

All of these materials will help facilitate my students different learning abilities. The new items will promote learning how to play and imitate, encourage communication, generate a "space" to look at books and play games, and help to create beautiful, colored curriculum and art projects!
