Play Therapy Tools in School: Help Our Students Mental Health!

Help me give my students therapeutic toys to utilize during school counseling sessions. These items are crucial for implementing play therapy techniques that will help my students process their emotions and address their social-emotional needs through play!

My Project

As a school social worker, I am constantly seeking new and improved methods to assist my students in understanding and managing their emotions. Many of the children I work with, some as young as five years old, are unable to verbally articulate their emotional needs. For the young learners or the neurodivergent students I work with, play therapy techniques provide a natural and effective medium for expression and healing.

Play therapy techniques allow children to express complex feelings in a safe and non-threatening manner.

Many of the requested items, such as diverse baby dolls and puppets, encourage interactive play, which helps children develop essential social skills like cooperation, sharing, and empathy. These skills are critical for their social development and can positively impact their interactions both in and out of the classroom.

The primary goal of this project is to provide effective tools and opportunities to allow my students to express and understand their emotions through play, thereby improving their emotional well-being.

Our students are exceptional in their diversity, resilience, and potential. Each child brings unique strengths and faces distinct challenges. I work with many neurodivergent students who find typical "talk therapy" to be challenging. Despite these challenges, they all display incredible courage and capacity for growth.
