This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with Pre-k3-5th grade students in a Title 1 school. I work with students that have big and small issues that come up that they would like to work on in the counseling room. Many students would benefit from individual and small-group play therapy to best allow them to be able to express themselves fully and work through and process grief and trauma. COVID-19 has brought extra stress, trauma, and hard times on families at our school, and I want to make sure the counseling office is a safe place where they can explore, identify, and work through emotions, issues/problems, and trauma.
My Project
All of these products are going to be used in individual and small-group play therapy to meet the needs of our student population. These supplies will allow students to express and process feelings/emotions and work through problems and trauma in a language they are fluent in, play. Children are unable to fluently express themselves verbally, and the act of play allows for fluent expression as well as a stepping stone into talk therapy or sand tray therapy. The students will be able to use these materials to identify maladaptive behaviors and learn new ways to problem solve, cope, and/or express their behaviors or emotions.
