I teach special education preschool in a public elementary school. My students are 2-5 years old and have a wide range of abilities. Our school is a Title I school and the majority of my students come from low-income homes. More than half of my students have disabilities, including developmental delays, autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, and anxiety disorders. Because my students' needs are so diverse, differentiation and a wide range of age-appropriate materials are critical to their success.
Despite all of the challenges they face each day, my students are the sweetest children in the world and they deserve the very best!
I want to provide a quality learning environment and help them develop the essential skills they will need for kindergarten and on. This means addressing all domains of their development: cognitive, physical, social-emotional, adaptive, and communication. Having a variety of materials to address each domain and keep children engaged while learning can be expensive. That is why I need your help!
My Project
This year, my preschoolers are attending class in-person. We have many new restrictions. One of the most challenging is that we are not able to share materials. We need additional toys to engage our little learners. These Little People play sets can be used for imaginative play and will help me teach social skill to my students during a time in which social interactions are limited. My students naturally want to play together and it can be difficult to engage them learning activities when they are by themselves. The toys in this project were carefully selected to get children excited about learning while they are working independently in their play pods. Having new and fun toys will really help support my little learners during this difficult time!
