My Students

Students at my school receive a rigorous, well-rounded education using an inquiry and project-based learning model.

Some of the 21st century skills that we strive for in our students are collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking (just to name a few).

My goal, as their music teacher, is to create an environment of exploration and enjoyment of learning through music and technology so all my students can be successful musicians. Through an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach my students are able to grow individually and ultimately reach their highest potential through music exploration. The key to success for my students is my having high expectations, both in academics and behavior, and my challenging them to always go the extra mile and not be afraid to take the risk in music.

My Project

I have requested several copies of the Alfred Play Piano Now textbook that I use to teach from in my middle school group piano classes. I have also requested a music listening activity book for me to use to expand my student's understanding and appreciation for different music genres.

Many students cannot afford a piano textbook but have a strong desire to learn to play piano.

I would love to have a few extra copies of the books I use to teach from to loan to students who are unable to purchase their own copy. Since each student has their own piano in the class, it is extremely important for them to have their own copy of the book so that they can progress in the class. These copies will remain in the classroom so I am able to use them each year.

With our school being on block schedule, I like to break the 90 minute class period up with a musical activity so they aren't sitting at their pianos the entire time. The book I am requesting has several short activities to accompany music selections from different genres. These activities will broaden their knowledge and appreciation for different musical styles.
