My Students

Hello and thank you for this opportunity! There is nothing that I do not love about my students. Just thinking about them brings a huge smile to my face. I teach band, orchestra, jazz band, rock band, drum line, pep band, guitar and music appreciation at a High School in SLC, Utah. I love connecting with people and I love my students. I learn from my students special gifts every single day.

My students are fun, loving, hard working, compassionate, empathetic, helpful and motivated!

They are musicians. They allow themselves to be vulnerable and work together to create something bigger than themselves. Despite our scheduling challenges, my students come back each year. When it gets tough or frustrating they do not give up. My students utilize their strengths and special gifts to help each other progress. They are open to different points of view and learn from their mistakes. We all do. Our environment is safe, open and loving.

My students want to be challenged. We struggle for funding for instruments, supplies, repairs and music literature for our ensembles. My students are gracious and continually brainstorm solutions so that we can be our very best. I am grateful for them.

My Project

Students will have functioning instruments. They will sound their best by having access to reeds and lead cables. They will stay safe by using instrument masks for in-person learning. They will have replacement strings to keep making music when a string breaks. They will have an electric guitar and bass for our jazz and rock bands. Guitar classes will have picks and replacements strings and a safe place to rest their instrument. We need a guitar amplifier bc we only have a bass amp. These supplies will help out program grow and keep kids in school making music and utilizing their talents rather than at home on their devices or, worse, getting into trouble outside of school. Music is life. Music is healing. Music is soul food! I am excited to play music on these new instruments and give my students the supplies they need to be successful musicians!
