My Students

My first-grade scholars attend a high-poverty school in Wisconsin. I am incredibly fortunate to be their teacher.

We participate in hands-on learning activities that use manipulatives and small group instruction in our classroom.

Students learn to read using phonics, basic math skills, and writing words and sentences about their experiences in first grade. Some students have special education needs in learning and behavior.

My Project

My first-grade scholars are working on basic skills. They work best by learning with hands-on materials. Because of COVID and virtual learning, some students did not learn their numbers or letters last year.

Remember opening a can of Play-doh and seeing, smelling, and touching it?

Play-doh can be used to teach students letters with the Learn the Alphabet Dough Mats and number sense using the Learn to Count Dough Mats. Students having a rough day can express their emotions using the Feeling Emotions Dough Mats and a can of this fun material. We can also use Play-Doh in science to make a model of the solar system or our five senses. In social studies, we can show the members of our families, needs and wants, and food, clothing, and shelter. Play-Doh is great for indoor recess, too. Your help would enable the students to learn while having fun!
