My Project

My classroom is an integrated preschool setting, made up primarily of students with special needs alongside a small group of general education peers. My students are curious and eager to learn, but many need extra support with communication, sensory processing, and regulating their emotions throughout the day. I am hoping to create a peaceful, calming area within our classroom where students can reset, explore, and learn through hands-on play.

This space will include a variety of open-ended, sensory-rich materials that invite exploration.

I am requesting Soft Pillows, Pose & Play Families, See-Inside Water Pumps, Dishwasher-Safe Plastic Baskets, Crystal Building Blocks, and more. With toys like translucent blocks, water tools, and natural building pieces, students will be able to investigate, create, and discover at their own pace. These materials are especially meaningful for my students with autism, as they provide visual support, encourage focus, and promote communication through play.

In addition to exploration, this calming area will serve as a safe and cozy space for students to regulate their emotions. Soft seating and thoughtfully organized materials will help create an environment where children feel secure, supported, and ready to rejoin group activities.

By providing these hands-on, open-ended resources, I can help my students build independence, strengthen social and language skills, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them through play and discovery.
