My Students

I teach music to approximately 650 amazing children in grades K-6 in suburban Detroit. They are intelligent and kind. This is something I have heard by many people who have entered our building. They are enthusiastic learners.

One of their favorite things to do in my music classroom is play instruments.

Their eyes light up every time we do a learning experience that involves instruments. It is one of the highlights of their musical experiences at the elementary level, and I love providing these experiences for them.

My Project

Orff instruments are the foundation of instruments in a music classroom. We use them often. They are easy and accessible for any aged elementary student. Even our tiny kindergartners can play them.

We use them to play accompaniments to songs while singing, to create our own music within specific guidelines, to practice playing in two or more parts with older students at the same time, and use them to play responses to specific music concepts we are learning.

We currently have a couple of older model xylophones that are difficult for students to carry. One of them is missing a piece. These particular xylophones are much easier for students to transport and we could benefit from have two more instruments. With no budget for music, I am unable to pay for them.
