Orff instruments are the foundation of instruments in a music classroom. We use them often. They are easy and accessible for any aged elementary student. Even our tiny kindergartners can play them. We use them to play accompaniments to songs while singing, to create our own music within specific guidelines, to practice playing in two or more parts with older students at the same time, and use them to play responses to specific music concepts we are learning. We currently have a couple of older model xylophones that are difficult for students to carry. One of them is missing a piece. These particular xylophones are much easier for students to transport and we could benefit from have two more instruments. With no budget for music, I am unable to pay for them.
