This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My art classroom is surrounded by the city, concrete, cars, and tall buildings. There is a lack of nature inside and outside our school. Majority of my students come from places that is surrounded by plants, trees and overall, the opposite of a large city. I want to bring nature elements into my room in order to help provide a nurturing environment for my students. Mimicking and re-creating spaces they are familiar with so they can feel they can feel at home and welcomed in my classroom.
This project will allow me to have plants in the classroom windows and provide select students with the opportunity to be care takers to the maintenance of the plants.
The plants will create a clam environment in the classroom and allow for my students to watch them over time grow and flourish. Using my printer to take print pamphlets about the plants, how to care for plants and what having plants in your home/class can help do. I want my students to leave my room with the desire to grow plants at their home.
