I have the privilege of working with 16 energetic and creative fourth graders. We are continuing on our journey of using a classroom tower garden to enhance our science learning. We are excited to study more about the alternate ways plants can grow, while at the same time exploring the properties of plant life. It is essential that we find ways of incorporating alternate ways to grow food as our Earth's population grows, and in turn cities grow leaving less space available for farming.
"What is a tower garden?" A Tower Garden is a cleaner, more environmentally friendly, vertical growing machine!
In a nutshell, it is an instant garden that can grow fruits and vegetables year-round inside a classroom (or home)! It uses some of the same technology that NASA uses. Tower gardens can grow larger plants in less time than regular gardening techniques. They also don’t require soil, weeding, or digging, and eliminate most of the physical labor of traditional gardening. By using a tower garden, students can learn how people can grow their own produce, in an area that might not have the earth, soil, space to do so. A tower garden also uses less energy than growing plants on a farm. Much of our focus using our tower, has been discussing all the positive impact it has on people and our Earth as a whole.
This is where we need your help! We need the soil (rockwool), seeds, and minerals to make our plants (and knowledge) grow. By donating to this project you will help our tower grow to new heights, as well as teach our students the importance of being friendly to our Earth and environment. Please consider this project so we can help our next generation learn about alternative, sustainable gardening.
