My Project

Our Academy is a highly specialized therapeutic day school setting that services students who have social/emotional impairments. These students are victims of varied past traumas. Children exposed to dangerous situations repeatedly have much difficulty navigating everyday situations and their brains have been wired to feel anxiety and fear so they frequently act out.

These special students need extra support and help to succeed and heal.

They would greatly benefit by having high-interest novels to engage with.

The Novels will promote a passion in reading and an opportunity to have meaningful class discussions. Often students who experience trauma will feel more comfortable discussing trauma through fictional characters. Each novel selected will help facilitate emotional and intellectual discussion that will directly lead to our students' healing. The TPT gift card will help me find engaging activities to support the selected novels. I also picked the school mailbox system so each student will have a safe space to keep their materials. Our students will stay with the same teacher for all 4 years of high school so they will get plenty of use! All of these materials would be so helpful in supporting every student in the school.
