Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I low-income school in an urban district located in North Chicago, IL. We are a diverse school with amazing students from diverse backgrounds, including children with a variety of disabilities and low socio-economic backgrounds, students in my school carry on many hardships on a daily basis — and to now that burden is even heavier with the impact COVID-19 continues to impact.
Despite their hardships, my students are enthusiastic about starting a new day, learning virtually and having that daily interaction with their peers, even if it is through a computer screen.
These gift cards will continue to encourage that spark and praise them for participating daily lessons and activities.
My Project
We have been conducting remote learning since schools closed at the start of the pandemic on March 16, 2020. As COVID-19 continues to dampen emotional and academic needs, I am beyond grateful for their true perseverance. It's time to celebrate this milestone, the midway mark of Distance Learning.

And the only thing better than talking about food, is eating it! A perfect reward for their determination, as we read the many different stories about PIZZA!
As a school that participates in the Free Lunch Program, providing meals as an incentive means much more than ordering a pizza. It covers a family meal with family time, as the cost will cover food for the whole family to participate in.
