My students are Kindergarten through 5th grade, STEM students in a rural community. The closest Walmart is 3 hours away. Our district is at 35% free/reduced lunches. This means that many of my students may not have access to computers, electronic devices or even the Internet.
My students are smart, curious and eager to learn about most everything.
It is amazing to see how excited they can get! If they are given the tools needed to take their learning to next level, they would be unstoppable!
My Project
STEM read aloud books give my K-5 students background knowledge on famous scientists, mathematicians, etc., that they would otherwise not have. The read aloud books will also enable me as a teacher to have a more in depth conversation on gender and cultures within the science, technology, engineering and math field of study. Kids love to hear stories about real people!
The Pixel display will help my students visually program and see what pixels truly look like in this format!
Makey-Makey will allow my students to harness their STEM know how, while learning about energy transfer and more complex science through a hands on process of using fruit for energy transfer!
The OSMO is an additional coding tool that classroom teachers will be able to check out and use as a center to further cement the coding concepts being taught in STEM.
