Bibliotherapy is a common tool to help children AND adults with social-emotional learning. As an adult, I have unknowingly read books that would end up providing me with a better understanding of myself. Using this method within a school allows me to provide SEL across the entire classroom to help build a better emotional foundation for the youngest members of my school community. \r\n\r\nI started off this school year by reading the basic Little Spot books the first week of school. This bibliotherapy has already started to show progress in my kinders better understanding of emotions. Just last week, one of my students was upset and crying while we sat as a class on the carpet. When I talked to them about it, they referenced their sad spot and were able to elaborate that their sad spot was big because they were tired. Three weeks into school and 5 books, this student was already able to communicate his emotions because of these books. Needless to say, my teacher heart nearly burst. Any doubts I had about incorporating these books into my classroom flew out the window. \r\n\r\nLearning to do \"school\" is very time-consuming and complicated. While we have been reading books, there hasn't been as much time as I'd like to extend our SEL beyond the reading of the books. In addition to this thank-you, I will include a picture of the books. I recognize that this is not adequate, but adjusting my new kindergarteners to school is my priority. Additional activities to incorporate our SEL from the books will happen soon, but just not by the time I need to have this sent out. \r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you so much for helping to provide resources to better serve my students!
