I teach 5th grade in a rural community. My students love to learn about the physical world around them. Due to our rural location, many of my students do not have access to science museums or math activities that larger cities offer. Our school is at 52% free/reduced lunches. This means that many of my students may not have access to computers, electronic devices or even the Internet. My students love to learn how things work. Learning how things work takes a variety of skills: science, technology, engineering and math. In order to communicate their findings they need to know how to write about it as well.
