My classroom is a pre-k classroom consisting of boys and girls that are 4 years old. My students come from low income homes that are placed in a neighborhood of crime, burned out structures, drugs and rubbish.
My students somehow rise above all of their deterrents and come to school daily.
With the help of their parents and grandparents, the children are becoming respectful little people full of energy and cheer. The children just want to have fun with their friends at this age and by providing a classroom full of adventure it encourages them to attend daily.
My Pre-K classroom consists of children from a high poverty area. The young 4-year-old students come to school every day prepared to embark on new learning adventures. By using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) products, the children learn about spatial sense, problem solving and logical reasoning. The children will also be able to construct systems of ramps, inclines, and build pathways. By introducing my children to STEM, I know they will be able to plan, test, and improve designs and gain knowledge of the real world of math and science that will continue to follow them throughout their learning careers and for the rest of their lives.
The STEM Kit (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) are designed to encourage these future pioneers to think like real scientists and engineers, as they design, build and test a parachute, that really works, a leakproof roof and a floating raft.
I feel that it is important to expose children, as early as possible, to all types of learning experiences, especially by giving them the opportunity to participate in STEM activities.
The children want to have fun, interact with their friends, and engage in concrete learning that begins the successful journey of education and life!
