My students need the full collection of Elephant and Piggie books along with Gerald and Piggie plush characters and finger puppets to ignite a love of reading as they read together and act out the stories!
Teaching kindergarten is my passion. I can't think of any grade I would rather teach and I definitely would not want to leave the classroom to be an administrator because my heart is with the students I work with each and everyday. I feel I was born to be a kindergarten teacher.
I am always looking for new resources to bring into my classroom to set my students up for success.
Many of my students are from low-income households and they don't have access to resources that many other children are fortunate enough to have.
Despite the daily challenges they face, my kindergarten students love to work, love to wiggle, love to read, love to build their independence, love to learn new things and love to come to school. They make me smile everyday and they inspire me to be the best teacher I can be. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with such amazing kids and it is my goal to inspire them to work hard and achieve greatness!

Every year Piggie and Gerald help me to get my students to fall in love with Reading!
I always start off by reading, "We Are In a Book." My students immediately fall in love with Piggie and Gerald and are hooked from that point on. They look forward to story time to see what Piggie and Gerald will be up to next.
I love that these books teach my students how to use thought bubbles and speech bubbles. I love that they use so many sight words, making it easier for Kindergarten students to read them independently. I love that they teach them about tone, expression and fluency. Students learn to raise and lower their voice based on the size of the font. All of these are skills that students start to incorporate into their reading and writing once exposed to them through these books on a daily basis.
I LOVE that when given a choice to use technology, build with Legos or read that students will prefer to pick up an "Elephant & Piggie" book, find a quiet nook and read to themselves.
I realized this year that we have multiple copies of the same titles while there are many titles that we have never read at all. I would love to offer my students the complete set of Elephant & Piggie books to inspire a love of reading. Having the plush characters and finger puppets will make reading these books even more engaging because they can act out the stories as they are reading them.
