This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Why should our students use this model?

Well, pigs as a mammalian species, provide a good specimen for my students to study the physiological systems and processes due to the similarities between many pig and human organs.

Many of the pig's organ systems are 80 to 90 percent similar to the corresponding systems in humans – both in anatomy and function.

Also, fun fact for our students, pigs share a number of surprising comparable traits with humans.

For instance, we both have hairless skin, a thick layer of subcutaneous fat, light-colored eyes, protruding noses and heavy eyelashes. Pig skin tissues and heart valves can be used in medicine because of their compatibility with the human body. In this model, the arteries are injected red and the veins blue. They are dissected and labeled. This will be utilized in grades 6-12.
