Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager, excited, active learners. They come to school ready to dive into whatever the day has to offer.
All of my students are unique and bring their uniqueness to class with them everyday.
They come from different backgrounds and different cultures, but they all come for the same reason: to grow and learn.
Our TK-8 school is located in the fertile central valley of California, surrounded by farmland and dairies. Many of my students are bilingual and are still cementing their English skills. They are eager to excel and willing to work very hard to do so.
My Project
Far too many of my wonderful students are below where they need to be in reading. But they are such hard workers! Novels are hard going for them. But add the pictures in graphic novels and reading is suddenly easier and much more fun.
Graphic novels are an important step in building endurance in reading.
Successfully reading and enjoying a whole book brings them closer to their reading goals.
We have some graphic novels in our classroom, but not as many as we need. And not a great variety. This project seeks to fill that need for graphic novels in our classroom library.
