Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some students were not made to sit still, and I encourage that. My students are in kindergarten and have some special needs. We are located in an urban area. All students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Every day, we start off with our breakfast in the classroom, followed by our morning circle time.

My students love to look at the weather, see who is here, and then talk about their nights. We are building a strong classroom environment one day at a time. My students are hands-on, interested learners with a lot of energy to learn, in all different ways, throughout the day.

My Project

When students are just learning to read and write they need as much motivation as they can to excel at the tasks. In order to get a student's interest in reading and writing you need to have fun things for them to do while learning. The family engagement packs would help the students complete fun tasks while learning in and out of the classroom. The story wands are not only fun for me and the students but they will help bring up ideas.

When you are getting a child to write use something they already know about, in our case THEMSELVES.

By using the insta camera and extra film we can take pictures of the students doing or playing with different centers around the room and then paste the picture into their journal and have them write about it. Since it is instant the students wouldn't miss a beat and would be able to be in the moment to write.

Using the pictures and magna-tiles we could create our own sentence strips using what the students have already learned about, or use the word skewers. Adding the element of digital and instant would really help our students. I love the idea of adding digital storytelling into my classroom.
