Every student needs somewhere to sit in the classroom, that is their own. I like to do small group instruction at a horseshoe table since I can sit in the middle and be close to each student. The students have space to do their work and I'm right in front of them, no more leaning over their shoulders. Being able to be in front of the students allows me to monitor their work without being a disruption. Each student will get assigned a chair during their time at that center. This enable the students to create a routine and know exactly what my expectations of them are. Students that know what the expectations are, can maneuver the routine to get to the fun part of learning easier. I am looking forward to doing reading at the table where each student can see the book and work on a worksheet having to do with the book at the same time.
