Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The student population is predominately Black and Latino. However, there is a small population of Arabic and Asian students who attend the school. Over 80% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Within this wonderful school community, I have the honor of teaching an awesome group of third graders.
I am inspired every day by their love of learning and their ability to articulate their thoughts and ideas during class discussions. They are amazing individuals because, despite the challenges they face at home and in their community, they thrive.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will ensure that all my students have the opportunity to master content in all subject areas. I know the use of dictionaries have become somewhat obsolete in today's technological era. However, "old school" practices still serve a function.
The picture dictionaries and flash cards are needed to support my English Language Learners.
The students need to be exposed to lots of visuals in order to master the English language. The materials will help the children learn to read and write by consistently seeing words connected with pictures. The materials will also be used as an additional resource for my students who struggle with spelling.
